4 Rules to Follow When Designing Your Bedroom

So, you’ve finally decided to give your bedroom a makeover! After about a year into the coronavirus epidemic, there are lots of people who are getting tired of looking at the same four walls that encase the same furniture that they have for years. It’s totally understandable.

Giving your bedroom a makeover can be tough, especially if you’ve gotten so used to the items that you have! Not to worry, we’re going to give you 4 failsafe bedroom design tips that will help you turn your room into a sleeping sanctuary.

Style Your Bed

The bed is certainly the most important part of any bedroom. It’s the focal point, the object you can use to inspire all of the other pieces in the room, and the place where you spend one-third of your life! Assuming that you get your recommended 8-hours, of course.

  • Choose a sturdy bed frame that you are confident will last
  • Invest in a quality mattress that will support your body and cushion your pressure points
  • If you are going to have a headboard, keep it simple and neutral so it won’t look out of place as your taste changes or move to a different home
  • Purchase bedding that is comfortable and can be used as inspiration for the rest of your room’s décor

Pay Attention to the Floor

If you have a bedroom with wood, tile, or hard surface flooring, an area rug under your bed is a must! Not only will it add texture, but it will make you feel much more comfortable when you hop out of bed in the morning.

Colour!

Even if you like a minimalistic bedroom design, it’s a great idea to give it a pop of colour to show your personality and add a bit of dimension. When adding colour, make sure all of the colours tie into one another for a nice, cohesive look.

  • Don’t be afraid to go dark bold paint colours or patterned wallpaper
  • Decorative pillows can give an all-white bed a bit of flair
  • Hang framed prints from your favorite artists
  • Implement statement pieces like bedside lamps, bedside tables, an armchair, feature wall lights or even a pendant over the bed.

Add houseplants

Houseplants may seem like they’re on-trend right now, but they are absolutely timeless and can be a great way to add some natural colour to your room. Houseplants in the bedroom are a particularly great idea for those who live in the city or aren’t able to view nature from their bedroom window.

Hanging plants are perfect for smaller bedrooms because you can implement greenery without taking up any space. For floor plants, select beautiful planters that help add a bit of style to the room.
